GAG LONDON: From Diaspora to Dancefloor - The Female-Led Team Championing Marginalised Artists and Grassroots Venues
LONDON — July 11th, GAG returns to Peckham Audio with its biggest lineup yet: an all-POC, FLINTA¹ bill of rising stars redefining sound and community in London’s underground.
Run and founded by an all-female team - Irish, Kurdish, and Pakistani; two queer, two POC - GAG is one of London’s few fully independent, female-led music promoters, fiercely championing grassroots venues and marginalised artists. In an industry increasingly dominated by men and corporate giants, GAG holds the line for DIY Culture and a space where artists are seen, paid and protected.
About GAG/ Mission
GAG is for those who live between borders, national, cultural, and personal. Known for prioritising care, building community on the dancefloor, and spotlighting emerging artists too often ignored by the mainstream, their nights are becoming a cornerstone of London’s underground.
The Lineup
Carla Prata
An Angolan-Portuguese vocalist raised in South London, Carla blends Afrobeat, R&B, and UK hip hop with effortless command. A COLORS alum and festival mainstay across Portugal, she’s steadily building her presence in the UK and European music scenes.
Charlotte Dowsson
Known for velvet-soft vocals and raw emotional delivery, Charlotte is one of NW London’s most compelling new voices in alternative R&B. Recently featured in Dazed and hitting the TikTok Billboard Top 10, she’s one to watch in 2025.
BUKKY
Nigerian-Irish and Cork-raised, BUKKY combines lo-fi textures, psychedelic edges, and fearless vulnerability. Featured in Little Simz’s “YOUNG” video, she’s bridging Irish and UK experimental music with a fresh, boundary-pushing sound.
Nightlife As Resistance
GAG isn’t interested in visibility as tokenism, it’s about building a movement that can’t be co-opted. By centering FLINTA¹ and QPOC² artists, prioritising care on the dancefloor, and rooting their mission in solidarity over spectacle, GAG is redefining what nightlife can be.
“We’re here to create a space where being queer, brown, Irish - or all three - isn’t just accepted, it’s the main event,” says Kaz, GAGs Founder. “DIY culture is in our blood.”
“It’s about platforming artists who didn’t start off having everything - artists who start from a step behind,” she adds.
With nearly 60% of LGBTQ+ venues in London lost over the past two decades, and corporate giants like Live Nation tightening their grip on the scene, GAG refuses to shrink itself to survive.
From auctioning provocative art for critical aid in Palestine and Lebanon to handing out shots in balaclavas, GAG blends rebellion with joy and purpose. Beyond the stage, GAG supports break-out artists like Comic Sans and has raised over £6.8k for vital causes, acting as crucial infrastructure for overlooked artists and a lifeline for the grassroots venues they call home.
