Yoni Mayraz ft: Tenderlonious - Ghostown! (Single)

A rising voice in contemporary jazz, Yoni Mayraz entered the scene with his 2020 EP ‘ Rough Cuts’ and standout debut album ‘Dybbuk Tse!’ (released on Astigmatic Records) which introduced his unique sound, shaped by 90’s Hip-Hop, Middle Eastern influences and jazz traditions.

The album garnered thousands of physical sales worldwide, millions of streams and tastemaker support from the likes of KEXP, KCRW, BBC 6 Music, Bandcamp Weekly, and CLASH Mag. This led to extensive touring, and saw Yoni (and his band) performing at Montreux Jazz Festival, The Jazz Cafe (London), Brussels Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s amongst others.

Hot on the heels of his single ‘Rooftops’ Yoni now unveils his latest offering ‘Ghostown!’ a potent collaboration with UK Jazz mainstay Tenderlonious. Backed by bassist Tom Driessler (Yussef Dayes, Adele) and drummer Zoe Pascal, Tenderlonious delivers eerie eastern-tinged flute stylings over an intense and driving backdrop, showcasing Yoni’s distinctive, outward-looking approach to instrumental music, merging a classic 70’s jazz funk trio sound with modern, experimental, and electronic influences.

On working with Tenderlonious, Yoni expands: ‘“I wrote this tune while living in a neighbourhood that used to get hectic on weekends, and then in the morning after the streets were empty and beaten down with the remains of last night. I based the melody on a pulsing baseline and a funky breakbeat for that quirky vibe. The track features Tenderlonious, who is a great friend and an amazing musician. The fact that he is experimenting with eastern sounds gave the track a unique twist which I really like.” It’s due for release on 13th June via PPK Records (run by Pino Palladino & David Passick).
