Reginald Omas Mamode IV - Yasiin’s Lament (Single)

Reginald Omas Mamode IV Shares Stirring Tribute to Mos Def with ‘Yasiin’s Lament’.

British-Mauritian artist Reginald Omas Mamode IV returns with ‘Yasiin’s Lament’, a powerful new single inspired by Mos Def’s 1999 anthem ‘UMI Says’. As a school kid, Reginald recalls how Black On Both Sides shaped his understanding of music and identity. “I want my people to be free,” he quotes — a message that still resonates, decades on.

This track leads into his upcoming album, ‘Rivière Noire’, out July 18. The title — meaning Black River — speaks to the enduring creative force of the African diaspora. “Against the odds,” Reginald says, “we’ve continued to shape global culture in ways both profound and beautiful.”

Musically, he’s embraced a fresh approach, stepping away from sampling to play everything himself — from drums to Fender Rhodes. It’s a sound rooted in jazz, hip-hop, funk, Sega and Maloya, echoing his South London upbringing and Mauritian heritage.

Reginald stands as a vital voice in the UK’s progressive beat and jazz scenes — alongside his brothers Mo Kolours and Jeen Bassa — with a legacy steeped in deep family rhythms and a commitment to cultural truth.

‘Yasiin’s Lament’ is out now. ‘Rivière Noire’ arrives 18 July.
