Tamara Dos Santos - Do It (Single) + 10 Questions

Tamara Dos Santos Returns With Soulful New Single ‘Do It’.

South London-based R&B artist Tamara Dos Santos is back with her new single Do It, a slow-burning, soul-drenched track that captures the emotional push and pull of falling in love after heartbreak.

Rooted in her Portuguese and Angolan heritage, Tamara blends smooth harmonies with lyrics in both English and Portuguese, crafting a sound that’s as personal as it is powerful. Influenced by icons like Mary J. Blige and Lauryn Hill, ‘Do It’ leans into classic R&B nostalgia while staying fresh and honest.

Tamara describes the track as a nod to emotional vulnerability, saying, “It’s okay to proceed slowly when the stakes of the heart are high.” Inspired by the likes of Leon Thomas’ Crash & Burn, the single showcases her evolving artistry and fearless storytelling.

Following her 2024 release Emotional, ‘Do It’ marks the next step in what’s shaping up to be a breakout year for this rising star. One to watch.

Tamara Dos Santos sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So, tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I have always had a deep relationship with music. When I was young, my mum used to tell me that I would wake up to the sound of Fu-Gee-La by The Fugees like clockwork and sing along. What helped nurture and developed my love for music was my parent’s personal love for music. In my house, there is always music playing, and it got to a point where I wanted to be the one who everyone was singing along to.  It started off as a far away dream of wanting to be a singer, until I faced my fears and started writing what I felt and signing it out loud. Now I can’t image life any other way.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I am heavily inspired by the UK R&B scene right now. I feel like there’s so many talented people paving the way. In particular, I am inspired by Tiana Major9, Jaz Karis, Venna, Jxck James, Emil and many more. I would absolutely love to work with Venna and Emil in the future for a production collab.

3. Can you tell us about your latest single ‘Do It’?

Do It is a song about vulnerability in meeting a new love interest and being hesitant in moving forward. This is a song about relatability, innocence and honesty when dating. I had fun writing it, despite it being hard to get it completed. I guess it was hard to admit that I was scared to get hurt again.

4. How would you describe your sound?

I would identify myself as an R&B artist who isn’t scared to explore the genre to its full capacity. Whether it’s a ballad, an upbeat song, a heartfelt or a flirty song, I love being able to express myself authentically through R&B.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Selling out my first headline show for sure! As an independent artist it can be scary to dare to dream so big because I’m always unsure whether I have enough to bring the people together. When I sold out my show, it spoke volumes to the hard work me and my team have been outing in over te years. I would even say featuring on the COLORS playlist is up there. I’m so excited to see what’s to come.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Do it. How you look, how old you are, or your financial status is not relevant. Creating the art and sharing it is the aim so just do it and love every single second of it.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Carla Prata

Tay Iwar

Sailorr

Venna

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

SEXXY SONGS 4 U! I am such a PND fan, whether it be his production or his writing, I think he is so cool. It was fun to hear him on the long awaited Drake feature album.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Anything that helps me grow. Being with friends, my 9-5 (gotta sustain the dream somehow), in the gym, spending time with family. I’d like to think that I use all opportunities to grow within myself.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio.

My notebook with all of my lyrics, a bag full of snacks to get us through, and a Caprison to hydrate me when water gets boring.
