Sammy Angelo ft: Oritsé Williams - Love Me No More (Official Video) + 10 Questions
London-hailing multi-instrumentalist, producer, artist and songwriter Sammy Angelo, whose mission is to inspire his listeners to pursue their passions, has unveiled his debut single “Love Me No More” featuring Oritsé Williams, the founder of the multi platinum selling band JLS. Sammy Angelo, an artist who isn’t afraid to push boundaries, has marked the start of what’s set to be an exciting journey ahead making a remarkable entrance into British music with this infectious release.
Turning up the heat just in time for summer, “Love Me No More” is a summer anthem that weaves elements of Pop and R&B throughout. What started as an impromptu post on social media turned into a networking opportunity with acclaimed producer Ayo Beatz [KSI, Wes Nelson, Chip] who had taken a liking to the idea online. Linking up in the studio alongside fellow hit-maker S1mba, the three of them created a single that instantly commands your attention. Welcoming the track with his smooth vocal tone and silk-like melodies, Sammy and Oritsé Williams compliment each other’s styles seamlessly. Paired with a fun visualiser of both artists performing the track outside of BoxPark, “Love Me No More” is a taste of what’s yet to arrive from the newcomer.
When asked about the creation of “Love Me No More” Sammy explained, “I wanted to start getting my ideas out on social media as I had stopped for a while so I posted this one. A few days later, I heard from Ayo [Ayo Beatz] and he was very complimentary about the idea and explained he knew what it needed, in order to finish it off. We got in the studio together, he had invited S1mba down and we laid down the whole song in a few hours– we were so happy with how it was sounding!”
Oritsé Williams added, “I’m all about championing fresh, talented artists at the start of their journey, and Sammy Angelo is exactly that. I came across a video of him on Instagram—just him, a guitar, and that raw, soulful voice—and I was hooked. Then I clocked that Ayo Beatz was already cooking up a beat using Sammy’s vocals, so I hit him up immediately like, ‘Yo, I need that instrumental!’ The second I heard it, I literally dropped everything, dashed to the studio and jumped on the track. The vibe was undeniable. After laying my vocals and finally linking up with Sammy in person, it just confirmed what I already felt—this kid is something seriously special.”
Sammy Angelo sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
My love for music started in a very unconventional way, from the way that I see it. I never really had a musical upbringing as my family loved music, but no one I knew from youth played any sort of instrument or made any music of their own. At the age of 15, it was Christmas Eve, I went up to my cousins room and she had a guitar, however it was majorly out of tune. It didn’t even have all 6 strings on it. However I started strumming on it, not even playing a single chord and just had an urge to want to be able to play this instrument. I thought it would be so cool to play in front of people. I told my mum that evening I wanted to start learning the guitar. Then the next week she went and bought me the cheapest guitar in the shop, because I never really did things for longer than a minute, so she felt reluctant to get me a guitar in general. I get bored and lose concentration so easily. To mine and my mums surprise, I played this guitar every day till my fingers bled, until I watched all the YouTube tutorials I could find. My parents couldn’t believe it, I was just in love with playing. They were so thrilled and bought me an electric guitar shortly after. This was the start for me, to then wanting to sing whilst playing and to be able to write songs of my own.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
Growing up, my Dad would play Elvis every day, I was obsessed with Elvis. I would dance to the “68 Comeback” all the time. But my parents were big music lovers and they loved playing me music from the likes of Michael Jackson, to Genesis, to artists like Justin Timberlake and honestly many other artists from many different genres. I started to find the artists I loved to listen to and used to want to sing like them. Especially Michael Jackson and The Weeknd. I loved their energy in performance and how they could sing in a falsetto, I just wanted to be able to do that.
In the future for me, I would love to collaborate with artists such as The Weeknd as a massive goal. Kid Laroi, Jon Bellion and artists like RealestK and Claudia Valentina. Their diversity in the artistry of music making is truly inspiring.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
Coming up, I have a few projects still in the making that I have written and then produced along side Ayobeatz. As both of us have creatively matched very well and bounce off each others ideas so seamlessly. At the moment a lot of my projects are still shaping and I am looking to release another 2 songs for this summer period, which for me is very exciting. I aim to put out a variation of genres, showing my versatility in music making and to work with more new artists in the industry also.
4. How would you describe your sound?
I feel my sound is very smooth and tonal. I like to bring out the luxury in singing words, creating a deeper feeling and an aspect of vulnerability. However I would say it brings out an opposite side to that, where my sound has energy and lots of life to it. The main benefit of my sound, is that it has an immense diversity to it and it allows me to make loads of different styles and genres. I feel as I spend more years making music, I will also mature to elevate my sound and my style along the journey.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
As a new artist, my debut single has had some brilliant responses, loads of new people are reaching out to me, praising the record. Yet for me it has to be when I heard the track playing on Kiss Xtra. This was the first time I had tuned in to hear my song being played on a radio station. This was a massive moment for me, my parents were both sending me videos of them reacting and listening to it live, I felt speechless. It is also a station that I listen to and tune in to frequently, so it ultimately felt like a very surreal moment for me and my most proudest to date for sure.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
I would say believe In your authenticity, stay unique to the person you want to be depicted as. Don’t change your visual, style or sound to meet a certain vibe or trend at the time, because there is only one you. You want people to fall in love with the person you naturally are and want to be.
Music for me has been all about exploring different routes and acquiring different skills and experiences from different genres and working with many people. Therefore to be involved in music you have to live and breathe every element you can and learn from everyone, because every single musician I have met has a different skill or something new to show you.
7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?
Personally, I have a few up and coming artists that I think are amazing. Claudia Valentina, she brings such raw emotion to her music, embellishing her own unique style and it’s infectious. Another artist who has become more successful this year, RealestK. He has such an amazing voice and sound that really gets you feeling deep in your emotions. I am a massive fan of stripped back, raw acoustic sounding music. It feels like the core and intrinsic of sound. There’s an artist called Joseph Weightman, who encapsulates authentic sounds, unpolished and natural. He is definitely an artist who has incredible potential and on my radar.
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
As of now, I have “ Off the Wall”, Michael Jackson, “Older”, George Michael. “Blue Print”, D Block Europe and “Dreams to Reality” RealestK.
I have such a diverse taste, because I love listening to a current rap song and then ten minutes later feeling vulnerable and lost in a George Michael track. It definitely broadens my horizon in my musical creative process.
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
When I am not making music, I love comedy and acting, I have done many courses in both and thoroughly enjoyed them. I would love to be on Netflix or in comedy shows performing live to an audience, alongside being a musician. I love travelling and exploring new places and spend most my free time away from music, creating new memories and being around new places and involved in new ventures.
10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
When I am in the studio, my three essentials I can’t live without is firstly a good, one litre minimum, bottle of water. A long side a lemon and honey vocalzone sweet. These sweets honestly save my throat and mouth from drying up or tiring out. I can’t count the amount of times I have relied on those sweets. The second main essential item I can’t live without is my phone. In the creative process, I have to use my phone to write my lyrics, as when I write it I forget words so quickly, I need the fastest way of jotting it down. I know many people who still write with pen and paper and I still want to do that more often. However in a studio session, I feel they can be very fast paced sometimes and so much is going, I just want to get all my lyrical ideas down as soon as I can. Finally a huge essential for me, is my guitar. It makes me feel comfortable in a new session especially, as I feel I have my super power with me. It’s like a comfort blanket for me to be able to zone in and start my creative process.
