J.I.D Returns with “WRK” and Announces New Album God Does Like Ugly
Atlanta’s lyrical powerhouse J.I.D is back — and he’s coming in hot. The 3x GRAMMY-nominated rapper has just dropped “WRK”, his first solo single since 2022’s critically acclaimed The Forever Story, and the first taste of his next chapter: a new studio album titled God Does Like Ugly, due out August 8th via Dreamville/Interscope.
Produced by longtime collaborator Christo and Pluss (Kendrick, Beyoncé, Future), “WRK” is a razor-sharp return — all trap percussion, heavy 808s, and lyrical flex. J.I.D sounds hungry, sharp, and firmly in control. As he puts it: “You can only control what you can control... And. It’s. F*cking. UGLY.”
Since the success of The Forever Story — a record that earned nods from NPR, Rolling Stone, and Complex — J.I.D has stayed active, collaborating with the likes of Lil Yachty, NewJeans, and Eminem while racking up streams and accolades. “Surround Sound” ft. 21 Savage recently went 3x Platinum, nearly three years after its release.
Born and raised in East Atlanta, J.I.D’s rise has been anything but overnight. From his breakout DiCaprio EP to his spot on XXL’s 2018 Freshman Class, he’s evolved into one of rap’s most agile and respected voices. With God Does Like Ugly on the way, expect another leap forward from one of hip-hop’s most compelling storytellers.
