I was sent this tune a few months back and was instantly excited, it’s the type you have on repeat and cannot seem to get enough of. I sat down with SAJE to ask our infamous 10 questions

1. So tell me how did it all begin, what sparked your passion for music?

I come from a family of musicians, so I've naturally always been surrounded by instruments and a lot of music being played as early as I can remember. I'd say the moment sparked my ambition to be a musician and start writing songs was being 12 years old, watching Jay Z headline Glastonbury. The way his music was connecting to a sea of people, all singing in unison really resonated with me in a way that nothing else had done before. I remember writing my first songs that very night, and just being so certain that I was placed on earth to create music.

2. How would you describe your sound?

It's really a melting pot of all my influences. I'd say at the moment it's a fusion of Rap with a lot of Gospel, Jazz and RnB ideas throughout. But whenever I start a song, I always try to stay open to it going anywhere, not having a predetermined destination, if that makes sense? Lately I've been interested in incorporating more elements from the UK scene in particular, like maybe bringing in some Grime sounds.

3. Who/what do you consider to be the biggest influence on your music?

As controversial of a figure he is, I can't deny that I've always been a fan of Kanye. Everything from his story, to his production credits and of course his untouchable discography has always been the gold standard to me. My favourite album of all time is Graduation, I just don't think there's an artist who's creativity and vision can match Ye's. A close second would be Kendrick for me, he's another one that just has that pure artistry feel to everything he does.

4. What’s the proudest moment to date for you as an artist?

Releasing this single might have to take that spot! I'm just proud of how the release has come together over time, the different people that contributed to it and now finally getting to share it with the world.

5. Name three things you can’t live without?

That's tough but I'd have to say Faith, Family and Music. I don't know if I'm cheating with that answer! But honestly, those 3 things keep me grounded in so many ways and I don't know who or where I would be without them.

6. Name 3 people you would love to work with and why?

I'd love to work with a band like Ezra Collective. I feel like we would be able to some incredible live stuff if that was ever a thing, and we have that common thread of a jazz in our music. DJ Dahi is an incredible producer from the states and someone I've followed for years now. I resonate with everything he's created. This last one might seem random but I love Lilly Allen. All her music has such an infectious energy to it and I'd love to work on something with her. A UK icon!

7. You’ve just released “Calling My Name/BURN (reprise)” talk us through your new work and what we should expect in the future?

Yeah like I mentioned earlier, this project is really a collective effort between me and the amazingly talented musician friends I have in Milton Keynes. The tracks really capture the fusion of genre's that is my current sound and I'm really happy with how it's all fallen into place. For the future, I'd say to expect a lot more music in general. This year I really want to keep my foot on the gas and show some consistency in my release schedule, so I'm already lining up the next release after this one.

8. What’s the best concert you’ve been to and where was it?

Isaiah Sharkey at the Jazz Cafe in London. It was insane show from the start but it ended on such an emotional high, I'll never forget that show.

9. What’s the album you’ve played more than any other?

If we're talking recently, then its definitely Chromakopia by Tyler, The Creator. The production is ridiculous and it's a lot more of an introspective project than anything he's done before, which I really respect him opening up for.

10. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Do it like you have no other option. I've got a long way to go myself but I really believe that we all have our own unique purposes for being on earth and it's our duty to figure them out and commit our lives to them.
