LARA’ - Something About Ur Luv (Single)
LARA’, the Texas based singer-songwriter, follows up last month’s single ‘Like Dat’ ft. Ambré with paradisiacal new song ‘Something About Ur Luv’. The track is co-produced by frequent collaborator BLK ODYSSY as well as Jay Versace and releases via EARTHCHILD/EMPIRE.
On ‘Something About Ur Luv’, LARA’ conjures all the emotions of a nourishing, healing love as her featherlight vocals glide over the song’s funk-laden, psychedelic beat. In her vocal performance, LARA’ calls to mind Soul icons Minnie Ripperton and Donna Summer, with her delicate, feminine tone expressing gratitude for the solace found in the confines of her relationship.
Speaking on the track’s meaning, LARA’ says, "I wrote this song to paint the picture for people of how comfortable this love made me and how it transformed me and continues to evolve me into a better version of myself. I wanted to make sure it sounded dreamy and sweet just like being in love feels at its best."
LARA’ is an artist that cites the likes of generational voices including Erykah Badu, Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill and Ella Ftizgerald as inspirations for her own soul-bearing, emotionally captivating work. As a long term collaborator with the multi-genre fusing BLK ODYSSY, LARA’’s voice can be heard across their catalogue, adding a sense of depth and emotional gravitas to the critically acclaimed albums BLK VINTAGE and DIAMONDS & FREAKS. In 2023 LARA’ joined the band on tour, performing alongside the group and as a support act during their sold out ‘DIAMONDS & FREAKS TOUR’. LARA’ enchanted audiences all across the US & Europe, including a spellbinding performance at their sold out debut in London playing at Hoxton Hall. More recently, she has landed writing credits for North Carolina rap elite Rapsody on her fourth studio album Please Don’t Cry.
LARA’ uses her experiences as a mother, partner and Black woman navigating contemporary life to inform her musical output, offering confessional, stylised and emotionally complex works. With spirituality playing a huge role in her life and creativity, LARA’ seeks to uplift through her art and spread messages of acceptance of oneself and others.
After spending much of last year writing and featuring on tracks by the likes of Rapsody, BLK ODYSSYand Dende, LARA’ has since been focusing on her own work which she has begun releasing, with January’s single ‘Pushaman’ and May’s ‘Like Dat’ ft. Ambré giving an insight into what’s to come.
